How do I play?

Find words by connecting letters up, down, left, right and diagonally. Longer words are worth more points!

Tap the word count to see how many words are left and how long they are.

When your progress bar reaches the first star, letters on the board will show a number — how many words start with that square. Reach the star after that for another new trick!

Squaredle, like Scrabble, doesn't accept capitalized or hyphenated words.

When does the next puzzle come out?

New puzzles come out each day at 10:00 AM UTC.

Monday puzzles are the easiest; Fridays are the hardest. Saturday and Sunday puzzles tend to have fun twists.

Stuck? Try rotating the board with the rotate icon.

Can I use a physical keyboard?

Yes! Type out the letters, then press <Enter> to submit the word. Use <Backspace> to delete a letter.

What's with the score?

Longer words are worth more points. Most puzzles have a word at least 8 letters long.

The globe icon represents the average of everyone's score today. Try to beat it!

What's a bonus word?

Slang and obscure/archaic words are "bonus" words—they're not part of your score, but they show up as "+1" next to the word count. The leaderboard sorts by score, then word count, then bonus word count. More about bonus words

Squaredle will never sell your data.

You may give us your email address, but don't have to. We don't share it.

We may record your IP address for anti-abuse purposes when you use Squaredle. We don't share it.

We use Google Analytics in anonymized mode to measure engagement. Google Analytics receives only an anonymized version of your IP address. We also use Google Adsense, which uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites.

The following is some legalese that basically says what I've already said above, but with more specifics. There's nothing surprising here.

Personal information

Squaredle collects the following personal information:

Email address
- You may provide your email address to register an account. Registration is not required to play Squaredle.
- We use your email address to sign you in on other devices when you also provide it on those devices.
- If you provide us permission during sign-up to contact you, we may use your email address to send you emails about your Squaredle stats and, rarely, to contact you about Squaredle promotions. These emails will include links to unsubscribe you from further emails.
IP address
- Your IP address is automatically sent to our server when you load Squaredle, because that's how the Internet works.
- We may record your IP address for anti-abuse purposes.

Sharing

Squaredle doesn't share or sell your data, and never will.

Squaredle does integrate Google Analytics to measure engagement: how many folks play the game each day, what percent of players are new to the game, what time of day is most popular, etc.

Squaredle also uses Google Adsense, which uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites.

You may disable Google's use of cookies on Squaredle by visiting our Cookies page.

In addition, you can opt out of Google Analytics entirely. Either add Google's official Opt-out Browser Add-on or use an ad-blocker like uBlock Origin. On mobile, visit optout.

Data deletion

If you'd like us to delete any data we have about you, including your scores and IP address, just submit feedback from the "Send Feedback" page and let us know. This will not remove data stored locally on your device, but it still may prevent parts of the site (e.g., your leaderboard stats) from working properly for you since the server will no longer recognize your device's scores.

I crowdsourced a special puzzle from the r/squaredle subreddit. Using the top suggestions from Redditors, I've worked eight words into a special puzzle.

Some of the words are related to Reddit culture, and others are just fun. Find the special puzzle in the Special Puzzles menu. And join the subreddit to stay tuned & chat with your fellow Squaredlers!

Bonus word

(In the tutorial puzzle, all words except the tutorial words are treated as "bonus" words.)

Bonus words make the base game easier by excluding obscure or questionable words. Finding them won't progress your score, but they break ties on the leaderboard by default.

Bonus words include:

Archaic, obscure or domain-specific words
- eyne, anata, graviton
Contractions and slang
- can't, she's, holla, rager
Non-American English words
- colour, tyre, brae

There are usually about 2x more bonus words than required words. Bonus words ensure the puzzle remains accessible to all and standardized in one dialect, while recognizing folks with broad vocabularies.
